These odds are actually really accurate and I accepted them. I would set out wobbily, and allocate a gay friend to lend me his arm for every staircase. In my bag I would have a squashed pair of ballet pumps which would be changed into at the end of an evening at the bus stop or in the street and the heels would be carried home dangling from my fingers.
But these days I have shamefully lost my confidence in heels! I had a really nasty fall in the middle of Punk nightclub, I slipped on some liquid and fell right back until my hair hit the floor and my hat fell off my head!! It was awfully embarassing! And there is the problem of walking to to venues; so often we don't actually know where the party is and amble around streets for quite some time before actually getting where we wanted to go..
These factors combined, recently I have found myself avoiding my beautiful skyscrapers and opting for a boring safe heel. The though of the stress and pain of my highest heels is not attractive, it resembles an assault course both in metaphor and reality..It was with these sentiments that I today clicked a never before accessed section on topshop.com, the 'low-mid heel'
Eugh there is nothing in there that tempts me, stumps so small it is not a heel at all, why bother! No, I have decided that what I need is a chunky heel with a platform toe and perhaps a strap for security. There are some on ASOS, I quite like these French Connection fringed heels, they are look comfy without looking boring; the others I am less enthusiastic about. I wish I were vintage girl whom can pull off the cutesty 50s look but alas in these Mary Janes I would look frumpy.
I cannot abandon my lovely collected silly heels though, and with such a low budget for new purchases, the old shoes are bound to make an appearance during fashion week. Out will come the old ballet flats, the dignity will once again be risked… yes what the heck, you are only young once and I’d rather look a fool in good shoes.

It is the eternal problem, style over comfort. It has to be said in the evening I always go for style. I wear mid heals during the day, to uni. And flats almost never - maybe when poping to the shops to get a pint of milk!
Lots of love

i feel you girl. i thought i had found the perfect shoe in the jeffrey campbell attic cutout.. it's only 2 inches but still totally hot but alas, after they came in the mail i discovered that this "perfect" shoe won't even stay on your foot while walking because the open back is so awkward and unsupportive.. blast! agh. so i guess the search continues.
Oh no! You need to get back on that heel horse. Conquer your fear. I also have had two bad spills on ridiculous heels. One in the comfor of my own home, the other down the stairs of my favourite kareoke bar. O my.
well i once, not only fallen but had lost a normal flat shoe, what would have happened if i had heels in that moment. but fortunately, that was the only shoe incident ever. i have to say, i wear heels when i feel for it... sometimes at work... sometimes just for going out.. in the evening. and they are all very high, im not much of a mid-heel lover...
I like to wear mid heals... they're really like flats ^^
I think middle heels are not boring, for example these grey ones from the right are very pretty.
xx
I know what you mean about heels, my friend and I were discussing this earlier.
Love those heels! Especially the third pair, so cute.
I actually wear ballet flats most of the time, because I really really love high heels, but they're not always practical, and because I refuse to wear mid-heals. I think mid-heels give you a strange silhouette, I don't know why! High heels are elegant but wiht mid-heels, I don't know, it has something awkward...
I used to stay far far away from heels because I'm horribly flat-footed and can't balance in stilettos. I've never fallen in them though, because I'm too scared to take a single step in stilettos. Then I bought a pair of shoes with heels that taper down and I've been wearing them to death since!
I love platform heels, because the chunky sole gives the illusion of height, but they are still pretty easy to walk in!
The first heels I ever chose to wear out were (stupidly) these bright red 7-inch heels.....they looked fabulous, but made me walk like i had a carrot stuck up my bottom. I also fell over (like, properly- on the ground) 3 times that night :)
Funny times.
I love 5 inch heels as well! The mid-heels aren't that bad. I'm so going to give them a try.
oh sweetie, I know exactly what you mean! I too have been on the look out for cute, high, chunkier heels. But have yet to find ANY that feel like me. The few pics you posted are cute but I know they will make my legs look chunky too. :( I guess I am more of a stiletto girl, even if my feet sometimes disagree with me...
I feel your pain! I try every kind of shoe, my feet will tell you that...they are constantly in pain. I do love flats though:)
I read on another comment that you had seen the Emma Cook boots in store?! Is that true?! I wanted them so badly!!
great blog by the way, just found it today:)

I admire your chutzpah and your tolerance for pain. I can't do heels higher than 3" myself and am in low heels or flats most of the time. :)
I love heels too! I lost feeling in the soles of my feet and toes for two weeks, so now I have to be careful or else I may need surgery to release the compressed nerve caused by heels :(
